Happiness is All the Rage

Something to make you smile from a girl who is quite aware that this is all one big vanity project.

Via Seattle.

Would you like to ask me a question?
What started as an exchange of annual mixes between dear friends continues each December with what is now a compulsion to craft an aural memory of each year before it ends. I really didn’t feel like doing it this time around, for a few reasons, but I’m a gal who is seriously respectful of deadlines. I’ll be darned if the 31st comes and goes without me sucking it up and putting some thought into the eighth installment of my favorite annual tradition.2011 will perhaps be my year of what could have been, in a couple of instances: I got a job offer in Portland (which I turned down). I fell in love, and was loved in return (but as my luck would have it, love isn’t all you need. THANKS BEATLES). I don’t regret a thing, but I do wonder.
Now it’s almost over, and what I’m left with is how it all felt: Valentine’s Day karaoke, flying on a trapeze, walking around Austin in the sun without a map, Kurt in a museum, gazing over the Gorge at sunset, two arms interlaced, the Woods stage at Pickathon, feet sore from too many nights in a row at rock clubs with concrete floors, standing five feet from the President, the actual taste of an oyster, cold noses on warm cheeks, doing the right thing, frozen yogurt and sprinkles, being alone again, and all the bits in between. It’s a feeling.
These 25 tracks are what will always remind me of what happened in each and every month of this past year. Regardless of what I’ve said here or am classy enough to keep to myself, I’m well aware of the charmed life I lead. I’ve got great friends, generous enough to support and make my first annual holiday toy drive for Treehouse for Kids a crazy success. I’ve got a fat cat, my health, this city that I love, a cocktail by my side, and music. Now and forever, the best bits are colored in. xo
